Deddington castle
A castle is a sort of fortified building that was mostly constructed during the Middle Ages by aristocracy or monarchy under military instructions. I am a retired military officer and I often visit different castles. Last month, my grandsons asked me to take them to Deddington castle. I searched for the best cab service on the internet and found company cab service the best. I and my grandsons packed the luggage and moved toward the airport. When we arrived at Heathrow Airport, the company cab driver was on the spot. He warmly greeted us. After placing our luggage in the cab, we start our journey from Heathrow Airport to Deddington castle.
As our journey was not so long, almost about one hour later we were at the Deddington castle. The company cab driver dropped us at the entrance of the castle. Deddington Castle was awesome. All that is left of an 11th-century motte-and-bailey castle, Deddington Castle is a large earthwork in the village of Deddington, Oxfordshire. Only the earth ramparts and mound are now visible. Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William the Conqueror's half-brother, constructed the fortress on a wealthy old Anglo-Saxon manor. It was fortified in the 12th century with the addition of some stone defences, but from the 13th century onward it began to deteriorate, and the stone structures were eventually torn down and sold for scrap.
The company cab driver told us that the castle had a small role in the English Civil War. Still, when Deddington's strategic significance declined, the area was abandoned and utilised solely for pasture and forestry for many years. Up until it was sold to the parish council in 1947, the location was used for recreation and sports in the 19th century. It now doubles as a nature trail and park. As a listed monument, the location is safeguarded by UK law.
The local aristocracy converted Deddington Castle into a sporting venue in the 19th century. It was sold to the parish council of Deddington, who tried to construct tennis courts in the inner bailey in 1947. These plans were scrapped and the western side of the castle was turned into a neighbourhood park after the discovery of mediaeval relics and a subsequent archaeological examination. The inner bailey is now managed by English Heritage, with the eastern half still being used for farming. The entire site is protected as a scheduled monument under UK legislation.
We adopted the company of a history writer there, he told us that due to its location on the route between Banbury and Oxford during the English Civil War (1641–1645), the village of Deddington was heavily involved. Royalist and Parliamentary forces utilised the castle as a temporary stronghold throughout the conflict, according to the historian James Mackenzie, and Parliamentary troops besieged a Royalist garrison there in 1644. [30] The castle site was utilised for agricultural and livestock grazing throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.
Only the castle's earthworks are visible in the modern era. While the eastern bailey is still being farmed, the parish council oversees the western bailey and English Heritage oversees the inner bailey. As a listed monument, the location is safeguarded by UK law.
My grandsons took so many pictures there. After visiting the whole castle and viewing the beauty of the castle, we made a plan to go home. One of my grandsons called company cab driver, and the driver arrived at the spot. He picked us up from Deddington Castle and dropped us at Heathrow Airport after exactly one hour later. Thanks to company cab driver who provide us such a nice service throughout the way. We enjoyed our journey a lot.
