St Thomas’s Church

This is the story of St Thomas’s Church. when we were from Gatwick airport to St Thomas’s Church. for that I used the company cab the journey far from Gatwick airport was 1 hour 2 minutes and the distance was 20.3 miles. I start with the history and story of the place. St Thomas' Church, Southwark, London, England. The first church building was part of the original hospital of St. Tomáš, which was located in the area around today's St. Thomas, from the infirmary in the priory of St Mary Overie in 1212. The hospital was therefore also an Augustinian house. The hospital/convent precinct became a parish no later than 1496. It was named after Thomas Becket, whose cultic pilgrimage to Canterbury began at London Bridge. The church was renamed St.

Thomas the Apostle after the abolition of the Becket cult in 1538 during the Reformation. The present church was built by the hospital trustees to a design by Thomas Cartwright in 1703. The church also houses the oldest surviving operating theater in England. The scientific facility was discovered in 1957 by Raymond Russell and is located in the attic (roof area) of the church. Visitors can stop by anytime from 9 a.m. It is one of Salisbury's essential landmarks.

The church stands in its square at the north end of Salisbury High Street, five minutes' walk from Cathedral Close. It is packed with amazing historical and architectural features and unique art. Try to catch a glimpse of the "Damn Bishop" as he is led to Hell in the famous and newly restored painting of Doom. Or try counting all 250 angels on the roof, walls, and columns.

For worship and prayer, St Thomas's is open for prayer and reflection Monday to Saturday from 10 am to early evening. Please follow the calendar of services and other events held in the church. They offer three Sunday services plus an 8 am weekday service every day except Saturday using the Common Worship (Modern English) and Book of Common Prayer (Traditional English) texts. Everyone is welcome to any of our services.

Various study and prayer groups can help you deepen and grow in your faith and enjoy the company of others. Here are some of the groups that meet regularly to pray, learn and share fellowship. One-off events are on the calendar. The Palmer Groups at St Thomas deal with the journey of faith through discussion of what the Bible says, what it means and how it might apply to our lives today.

These groups meet weekly on Tuesdays during term time, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening. Although they use a structure for the groups, they are more of a Bible and practical faith discussion group than a formal Bible study group. The name Palmer Group comes from an alternative name for a pilgrim. Palmer was a pilgrim, especially one who returned from the Holy Land with a palm branch or leaf as a sign that he had gone on a pilgrimage. The groups are open to anyone on this journey, whether they are starting or have been there, done that, and received a palm leaf.
